Skegness Drone Show

Ingoldmells Business Night | 28 August 2026

Fly Capture delivered a public drone show in Ingoldmells, Skegness as part of the Ingoldmells Business Night event.

With the audience gathered along the coast and the show taking place towards the beach, the display was designed to be seen clearly across the area while fitting around the event, the location and the operational requirements of flying drones in a busy public setting.

1. The Initial Storyboard

Every drone show starts with an idea.

For this show, the client shared their initial ideas for what they wanted to see in the sky. We then worked through those ideas with our own creative input, looking at what would work well as drone formations and how the different scenes could flow together.

The first storyboard gave us a starting point for the show. It allowed us to explore the shapes, logos, text and other elements before moving into the technical planning stage.

At this stage, we were looking at both the client's vision and what we could create with the drones, making changes where needed to make the final display work well from the audience's viewpoint.

2. Show Plotting and Planning

While the creative side of the show was being developed, there was also a lot happening behind the scenes.

The show location needed to be plotted carefully, taking into account the audience area, flight area, launch area and the direction the drones would be viewed from.

For this show, the audience would be looking towards the beach, so the plotting and formations were planned with that viewing direction in mind.

There was also the operational side of the event to manage. This included the required permissions, safety planning, risk assessments, airspace considerations and coordination around the event itself.

Our team worked through these details before the show could take place, making sure everything was planned properly for the location and the public audience.

This part of the process is often unseen by the audience, but it is an important part of every drone show we deliver.

3. The Final Storyboard

Once the ideas, plotting and technical requirements had been worked through, we arrived at the final storyboard.

The original ideas had now been turned into a sequence of drone formations that could be programmed and flown.

The final storyboard gave the team a clear plan for the show, showing how each scene would appear and how the different formations would move from one to the next.

This is where the creative idea starts to become a real drone show.

4. Creating the Show

With the storyboard signed off and the planning in place, the next stage was creating the actual show.

Each formation had to be programmed and positioned within the flight area. The movements between scenes were also planned so the show could run smoothly from beginning to end.

Before the public show, we carried out a test flight at 19:00, lasting approximately 12 minutes.

This gave the team an opportunity to check the flight, positioning and overall setup before the main performance later that evening.

Flight Schedule

Test Flight
19:00
Approximately 12 minutes

Public Drone Show
Approximately 20:30 to 21:00
Approximately 12 minutes

Once the checks were complete and everything was ready, the drones were prepared for the main show.

5. The live Show

As part of Ingoldmells Business Night, the public gathered along the coast to watch the display towards the beach.

At around 20:30 to 21:00, the drones took to the sky for the main 12 minute performance.

What had started as a set of ideas on a storyboard had now become a live public drone show, watched by the audience gathered for the event.

The Result

The Skegness Public Drone Show brought together the creative and technical sides of drone show production.

From the client's first ideas, through storyboard development and show plotting, to permissions, testing and the final performance, every stage played a part in bringing the show to life.

It was another example of how a drone show can be created around a specific location, audience and event, with the final display designed to be experienced from the ground looking up.
